Troops Rescue Seven, Foil Abductions In North-West
By Ahmad Sirajo Makama, Abuja
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued seven kidnapped victims and foiled coordinated abduction attempts in Katsina and Zamfara states, as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and banditry across the North-West region.
In a statement by the Media Information Officer of the operation, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Joint Task Force said the successes were recorded during sustained counter-terrorism and search-and-rescue operations conducted on June 16, 2026.
According to him, troops intensified offensive operations against terrorist enclaves in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
He said the operation was aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and securing the release of captives following recent successes recorded in the area.
“During the operation, troops targeted a known terrorist hideout in Fafu Village.
“Faced with intense military pressure and superior firepower, the terrorists reportedly fled the camp, abandoning some of their captives. The troops subsequently cleared the camp and rescued four kidnapped victims.
“The rescued individuals are currently receiving medical attention for injuries sustained during their captivity.
He further stated that in a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Zurmi town of Zurmi Local Government Area after receiving a distress call from residents.
Lieutenant Colonel Danja said the terrorists had infiltrated the community with plans to abduct residents but were confronted by troops who swiftly mobilised to the area.
“A fierce gun battle ensued, forcing the criminals to abandon their mission and retreat.
“Following a clearance operation in the area, troops rescued three abducted victims and ensured their safe return to their families,” he said.
He described the operations as a reflection of Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s determination to safeguard lives and property across the North-West.
The Media Information Officer noted that troops remain committed to sustaining offensive operations against terrorists and bandits, with the goal of restoring lasting peace and normalcy to affected communities.
