Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration(FCTA), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will personally commission 10 major infrastructure projects in Abuja beginning Tuesday, June 10, immediately after the Sallah holiday in what he described as an unprecedented milestone in the history of the FCT.

Speaking to news men during an inspection tour at the International Conference Centre (ICC) and road networks around Gishiri, Jahi, Mabushi, and Maitama, the Minister said that the commissioning exercise will begin at the ICC and span several days across 17 completed projects.

“Mr. President has finally approved a commission of projects to start on the 10th of June, which is on Tuesday, after the Sallah holiday,” Wike revealed.

“That will start with the International Conference Centre, and as you can see, we are good to go.”

Wike disclosed that the President will personally commission 10 projects, while the Vice President, Senate President, and Speaker of the House of Representatives will represent the President in commissioning three, two, and two projects respectively bringing the total to 17.

“Because of time and space, we reduced the projects to 17. The Vice President will take three days, the Senate President two days, and the Speaker two days,” the Minister explained.

He added that the remaining projects may be commissioned by the FCT Administration itself at a later date.

Speaking about the rehabilitated International Conference Centre, Wike emphasized a new maintenance regime that will keep the facility in top shape.

“I will directly supervise it. We will have an agreement with Julius Berger for the maintenance of the place, and we will pay them,” Wike said.

“This time around, it’s not going to be like before where you hand it over to politicians and they do whatever they want to do.”

He added that final clean-up and finishing touches would be completed by Sunday or Monday ahead of the President’s arrival.

On the road infrastructure, Wike confirmed that the Gishiri interchange route leading to Jahi, Maitama, and Mabushi is completed and ready for commissioning.

“The next day, which is on the 11th, it is where we are now. The Gishiri area will commission this route from the interchange, going to Jahi, and the other side going to Maitama, Mabushi,” he stated.

“You can see the joy of the children they are all feeling the impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Wike also commended the National Assembly for its support in approving FCT budgets without delays, noting that what residents are seeing today is the result of transparent and results-driven budgeting.

“Yes, it's a pending drafting, but the legislature has already made sure that all requests in terms of budget have been approved without any delay,” he said.

“We are not presenting budget for budget sake. We are presenting budget that at the end of the day, they know we are going to implement.”

As Muslims prepare to mark Sallah, Wike prayed for peace and urged Nigerians to use the season to foster unity and national progress.

“We believe by the grace of God, like it's our duty, that without security breaches, they will enjoy their Sallah very happily to the glory of God,” he said.

“I use this period of Sallah to urge all Nigerians to work together and unite the country, so we can forge ahead for Nigeria to benefit.”

The Minister concluded by expressing deep gratitude for President Tinubu’s unwavering support for Abuja’s transformation.

“We are very, very happy that all the promises we made, we have been able to accomplish them. Look at the reaction from the people that tells you everything. If the people are happy, we are also happy.”

“We give God Almighty the glory and thank Mr. President for all his support.”

The 17 projects to be commissioned span roads, bridges, public buildings, and urban renewal initiatives all forming a key part of the Renewed Hope Agenda for the capital city.
