Jigawa APC Elders Back Tinubu, Namadi Candidacy
By Ahmad Sirajo Makama, Abuja
The Elders Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umar Namadi as sole candidates for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections, signaling early political alignment ahead of the polls.
The endorsement was announced at a meeting of the committee, described as the highest decision-making body of the party in the state, comprising senior stakeholders across all levels.
Reading the resolutions reached at the meeting, APC State Chairman, Ahmed Garba, said the decision followed wide consultations and unanimous agreement among party elders.
He declared that the committee had endorsed President Tinubu as the party’s sole presidential candidate in 2027 and Governor Umar Namadi as the consensus governorship candidate in Jigawa State.
Ahmed Garba also revealed that, “the elders had resolved to purchase nomination forms for both leaders”, underscoring what he described as “the committee’s full commitment to their candidacies.”
According to him, the party had adopted consensus rather than primaries as its preferred mode of selecting candidates for the 2027 elections, stressing that “the move was aimed at strengthening unity within the party.”
He said committees would be constituted at state and local government levels to oversee due diligence for aspirants and ensure the emergence of consensus candidates for all elective positions, including the Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly.
The endorsement received unanimous support from the three senatorial zones of the state.
Speaking on behalf of Jigawa Central, Hon. Farouk Adamu Aliyu reaffirmed support for President Tinubu and Governor Namadi, pledging that party elders would fund their nomination forms.
Also, Alhaji Isah Muhammad Gerawa declared support for the two leaders, describing the endorsement as the collective decision of stakeholders in the zone.
Representing Jigawa North-East, Senator Muhammad Ibrahim Kirikasamma described the endorsement as wholehearted, saying the zone fully backed both President Tinubu and Governor Namadi for re-election in 2027.
The development is seen as a major boost for the ruling party in Jigawa, as party elders move early to consolidate support and promote consensus politics ahead of the next general elections.
