NGF Mourns Victims of Nigerian Air Force Aircraft Crash
By Muhammad Bala Imam
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed grief over the crash of a Nigerian Air Force aircraft in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, which claimed the lives of military personnel and other persons on board.
The NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, conveyed the governors’ condolences to the families, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased personnel, as well as the Nigerian Air Force and the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria.
In a statement issued on behalf of the 36 state governors and the people of Nigeria, AbdulRazaq described the incident as “a deeply painful moment” for the country, noting the sacrifices routinely made by members of the Armed Forces in the service of the nation.
“The men and women of our Armed Forces make extraordinary sacrifices, often under the most challenging circumstances, to serve our country and protect our people,” he said.
The governor said the loss was not only a tragedy for the bereaved families and colleagues of the victims but also “an immeasurable loss to the nation they served with courage, commitment and honour.”
He particularly acknowledged the pain of families who lost fathers, husbands, sons, brothers and other loved ones, saying no words could adequately ease the burden of such a loss.
According to him, the governors stand with the affected families in their grief and pray that they find strength and comfort in the memories of their loved ones and the service they rendered to Nigeria.
The NGF chairman said the governors joined President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Government, the people of Nigeria and the Armed Forces in mourning the victims.
He assured that the service and sacrifice of the fallen personnel would not be forgotten, adding that their memory would remain part of the nation’s history.
The governors also commended the Nigerian Air Force, the Federal and Ondo State governments, security agencies, emergency responders and residents of Igbokoda for their efforts in responding to the incident and supporting search and recovery operations.
AbdulRazaq prayed that Almighty God would grant eternal rest to the departed and give their families, colleagues and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
He added that the sacrifice of the fallen personnel should continue to inspire “a safer, stronger and more united Nigeria.”
