Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned a newly completed nursing quarters and two mega primary schools in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The projects, executed by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s administration, are aimed at addressing the shortage of accommodation for health workers and expanding access to quality education across the state.

The nursing quarters, located near the State Specialist Hospital, comprise eight blocks of six flats each. The units are fully furnished and fitted with air-conditioning systems to provide comfortable living conditions for healthcare personnel.

In the education sector, the First Lady also inaugurated two mega primary schools located in Aliyakeri and Abbaganaram. Each school features 48 classrooms designed to accommodate thousands of pupils.

They are equipped with ICT centres, modern sports facilities, e-learning systems, and solar-powered electricity to support uninterrupted learning.

Speaking during the commissioning, Senator Tinubu commended Governor Zulum’s people-focused leadership, noting that the projects would strengthen healthcare delivery and improve the quality of education in the state.

She described the developments in Borno as encouraging, adding that she felt honoured to witness the commissioning.

Governor Zulum’s administration has so far completed 104 mega schools, with several others at different stages of construction across the 27 local government areas.

As part of her visit, the First Lady also launched a N200 million empowerment programme targeting 2,000 vulnerable women across the state. Each beneficiary is to receive a grant of N100,000 alongside a sewing machine to support their livelihoods.

She praised the initiative, describing it as a clear demonstration of the governor’s commitment to the welfare of the people, particularly women.

A breakdown of the beneficiaries shows that 400 women were selected from Maiduguri metropolis, 200 from Jere Local Government Area, 100 from Biu, while the remaining 24 local government areas have 50 beneficiaries each.

In addition, Senator Tinubu presented keys to brand-new utility vehicles to eight outstanding education personnel, including teachers, head teachers, principals, and technical coordinators, in recognition of their dedication. The vehicles were provided by the Borno State Government.

In a related gesture, Governor Zulum awarded a house to a ministry watchman, Baba Modu Fandi, in appreciation of his years of service. The First Lady further supported him with an additional ₦2 million.
