Akpabio Declares Ondo South Senatorial Seat Vacant
By Ahmad Sirajo Makama, Abuja
The President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has declared the Ondo South Senatorial District seat vacant.
Senator Akpabio made the announcement during plenary on Tuesday, stating that the seat became vacant following the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who hitherto occupied the seat, as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
The President of the Senate therefore called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a bye-election in the next 30 days to fill the existing vacancy in line with extant laws.
Senator Akpabio also directed the Clerk to the National Assembly to transmit the resolution of the Senate to the Independent National Electoral Commission for urgent action.
