PDP Denies Supreme Court Judgement
By Ahmad Sirajo Makama, Abuja
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the Supreme Court judgment delivered on April 30, 2026, nullified the illegal Ibadan “Convention” and dismissed the appeal filed by the Turaki-led purported National Working Committee for lacking merit, stressing that this remains the sole substance of the ruling.
Addressing journalists at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Jungudo Mohammed, said contrary to widespread claims, the apex court did not uphold any suspension or expulsion of party officials.
He explained that the issue of suspension or expulsion was never before the Federal High Court, the Court of Appeal, or the Supreme Court at any stage of the proceedings.
According to him, the Supreme Court confined itself strictly to the matter before it—the validity or otherwise of the so-called 15th and 16th Ibadan “Convention”—and made no reference whatsoever to the removal of any party officer.
Jungudo further maintained that there has been no vacuum or breakdown in leadership within the party, insisting that the PDP’s leadership structure remains intact, lawful, and fully operational under the National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
He described claims to the contrary as a deliberate attempt by a “rejected group” to distort the clear provisions of the Supreme Court judgment in order to mislead the public.
The PDP spokesman added that the judgment is a public document and urged Nigerians to verify its contents independently.
He also criticised those who conducted the Ibadan Convention despite existing court orders, accusing them of continuing in what he described as a pattern of lawlessness even after the Supreme Court ruling.
On claims that the Board of Trustees (BoT) has taken over the party or has the authority to convene the National Executive Committee (NEC), Jungudo stated that there is no provision in the PDP Constitution granting such powers to the BoT.
He further dismissed claims by Senator Adolphus Wabara, noting that his tenure as BoT Chairman had expired before the current crisis. He maintained that the only recognised leadership of the Board of Trustees is that led by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa.
The party urged the public, its members, and the media to disregard what it described as propaganda and remain guided by facts and legality.
Reaffirming the party’s position, Jungudo insisted that there are no factions within the PDP and called on media organisations to avoid portraying the party as divided.
