APC Declares Gwamna Winner of Gombe Governorship Primary
By Ahmad Sirajo Makama
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially declared Dr Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna as the winner of the party’s governorship primary election for Gombe State, positioning him as the standard-bearer for the 2027 General Election.
Announcing the result in Gombe following the collation of figures from all 11 local government areas, the Chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee, Senator Sani Danladi, said Dr Gwamna secured a commanding victory after polling 247,161 votes, defeating two other prominent aspirants.
Senator Danladi confirmed that the primary election was conducted peacefully, transparently, and in full compliance with party guidelines and the provisions of the Electoral Act.
He said the runner-up was former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, who garnered 12,120 votes, while former Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, trailed with 11,612 votes.
Senator Danladi acknowledged receipt of notices of withdrawal from Senator Alkali and Prof. Pantami, noting that they were received after the process for the primary had begun, hence the appearance of their names on election documents and their subsequent votes in the field.
He commended APC members across the state for their orderly conduct and impressive turnout during the direct primary election, describing the process as a clear demonstration of the party’s strength, unity, and grassroots acceptability in Gombe State.
Responding on behalf of the APC governorship candidate, Dr Gwamna, Mr Usman Bello Kumo appreciated the process and called on members of the party to close ranks and ensure victory for the party at all levels in the 2027 elections.
“Let’s continue to fly the flag of our party, the APC, to greater heights in a peaceful way,” Bello-Kumo said.
The collation took place at the APC State Secretariat in Gombe and was monitored by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission, led by the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Gombe State, Mr. Umar Mukhtar Gajiram, as well as electoral observers, security personnel, the media, and senior party officials.
