President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s cities through purposeful infrastructural development, describing modern urban infrastructure as the loudest proof of any government’s seriousness.

The President who stated this Tuesday, while commissioning of Connector Road CN-8, Asuquo Okon, and other adjoining roads in Dakibiyu District, Abuja.

The President who was represented by the Vice President Kashim Shettima revealed that functioning roads, steady lights, and smooth traffic flow are not just signs of a working city, but clear indicators of effective governance. “When a city works, it tells the world that its government is not just present, but purposeful,” he stated. “Infrastructure is not just about concrete and steel, it is the most persuasive advertisement of leadership, of order, and of vision.”

The newly constructed roads connect the bustling Arterial Road N-5, popularly known as Obafemi Awolowo Way in Jabi, to the vibrant Arterial Road N-1, the Olusegun Obasanjo Way in Dakibiyu. The Vice President noted that these projects serve as bold signatures of the federal government’s commitment to urban renewal and economic revitalization, especially in the Federal Capital Territory.

“For too long, inadequate infrastructure has choked the aspirations of these areas,” he said. “Today, we breathe life into communities long waiting to be seen, long waiting to be served.” He added that the dividends of the project will be both immediate and long lasting, easing congestion, improving access to markets, and boosting emergency response times.

Describing the completed roads as a clear expression of the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda, the Vice President said development must extend beyond the city center to underserved communities. “This is Renewed Hope poured into concrete and paved across kilometers,” he said. “We are equally committed to Abuja’s margins, to its hidden corners where dreams often struggle to break.”

He then commended the FCT Minister, Barr Nyesom Wike, for what he called “an outstanding sense of urgency and execution.” According to him, the Minister’s leadership has made it possible for projects such as the Connector Road CN-8 to be completed within record time. “We thank you and your entire team at the FCTA for this outstanding work,” he stated.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Barr Nyesom Wike thanked the President for his continued support and noted that this was the 14th project commissioned within a two week span.

He recounted how bad the road network was in the area before the intervention, saying, “You can’t believe that, as a city, we could have such terrible, horrible roads.” He said that the contract was approved by the Federal Executive Council in September last year and flagged off in October.

The Minister further called for continued support from the presidency, emphasizing that the rapid completion of the project was only possible due to the administration’s political will and commitment to the people. “There’s no need to talk much but to thank you for your continued support,” he added.
