The Federal Capital Territory Taskforce said its officials have impounded over 280 vehicles, motorcycles and tricycles for aiding crime in Abuja.

Director, Department of Security Services FCT Administration Adamu Gwary through Peter Olumuji, during the day five of "'Operation sweep Abuja" late Monday, said over 40 vehicles have been impounded for traffic offences and erring in area of registration.

He revealed that over two hundred commercial motorcycles were apprehended for helping criminal elements through route violation.

Gwary explained that more than 40 tricycles popularly known as Keke Napep have also been impounded by the team.

He said Operation Sweep, which is a multi-agency anti-crime squad endorsed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, will continue to ensure that all nuisances and emerging crimes within the territory are tackled.

The Director said considering Abuja as one of the safest places to reside in the country, it has made so many persons to migrate into the capital, paving way for different impacts.

He said all those arrested during the operation will be profiled accordingly, especially beggars and the destitute

He said, "All these things will help to checkmate crime rates within the FCT, which the residents have been clamoring for. And they are happy that this operation has started, and is yielding positive results in the territory.

"Everybody knows that FCT is the safest place you can reside in Nigeria as of today. And that has made so many people to migrate into the territory. This also has its own negative implications because the infrastructure has been overstretched.People with questionable characters have also been able to come into the capital. And that is why anywhere around the world there is always this continuous mop-up exercise to keep the city clean.

"For the traffic offences, we have over 40 vehicles that have been impounded. We also have those that have violated the registration. Those that are running commercial but they are not painted, the VIO have also been able to apprehend some.

"The commercial motorcycles that have also been aiding criminal elements through route violation, we have impounded over 200 of that. And the tricycle which is popularly called Keke Napep, we have over 40 that have been impounded by the traffic agencies.

"All those who are found wanting, the police is also going to prosecute them accordingly. And that is why it is a multi-agency anti-crime squad"

Wike’s aid slams Ireti says her electoral woes hunts her.

The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka has said that the Senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, is already blinded by the spirit of her impending electoral woe, and can never see the positive transformation going on in Abuja and the FCT satellite towns.

He said "it is funny that someone who is impersonating by using the name of Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe, that is no longer her husband, believes that jumping from one television station to the other to disparage the FCT Minister will revive her dead political career."

The Senator had said yesterday, on a television program that President Bola Tinubu’s biggest mistake was making Wike Minister of FCT.

Responding, the FCT Minister's Spokesperson challenged Ireti to go to communities like Saburi, Dei Dei, Kabusa, Ketti, Yangoji, Pai, Gomani, Gishiri, Kwaita, Yebu, Yangoji, Sukuku, Ebo, Ushafa and others that now have good roads, to mount the rostrum and tell the people that President Tinubu made a mistake by appointing Wike as FCT Minister.

"Most importantly, she can also visit traders in the Apo Mechanic Village, whose dream of being relocated to a permanent site is being fulfilled more than 15 years after, as well as those residing along Apo-Wasa road, and tell them it was a mistake that Wike was appointment as FCT Minister.

"In Abaji, Federal Capital Territory University, Abaji (FCTU), a university established close to 15 years ago, but was abandoned, is now witnessing a massive infrastructural development. Also, general renovation of 22 schools have been done in the last 12 months while renovation of more 40 others is ongoing.

"As expected of someone already blinded by the spirit of a coming defeat, Ireti, alias Kingibe won't see all these. Reason is, she knows that in 2027, she won't be able to retain the Senate seat she accidentally got in 2023. She knows that the factor that got her to the Senate is no longer available and she is desperate to use attacks on Wike to gain political leverage.

"Unfortunately, Wike is not in the comity of frustrated politicians like Ireti 'Kingibe' who is treating her aides like slaves, refusing to pay their wages and entitlements for months," Olayinka said.

While counseling Ireti to get real and stop impersonating, Olayinka said, "At 71, a woman should have a clear identity, use her legitimate names, and stop using the name of a man she is no longer married to."
