The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday morning received the remains of the Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Barinada Mpigi, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The Minister, who arrived at the airport at about 5:30 a.m. alongside other dignitaries, also received the wife of the late senator, Mrs. Patricia Obiageri Mpigi, and their children.

Wike was accompanied by the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa; Senators Philip Aduda, Magnus Abe, Allwell Onyesoh, and Olaka Nwogu; the House of Representatives Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda; the Rivers State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Ambassador Desmond Akawor; the APC National Vice Chairman (South-South), Victor Giadom; among others.

Senator Mpigi died in London on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the age of 64.
