Customs Launches Digital File Tracker To Boost Efficiency Nationwide
By Ahmad Sirajo Makama, Abuja
The Nigeria Customs Service has launched a Management Information System (MIS) File Tracker to enhance operational efficiency and digital administration at the Port Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Area Command in Lagos.
Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, says the initiative is part of broader reforms to strengthen technology-driven processes, improve personnel management, and accelerate documentation handling across commands nationwide.
Adeniyi, who was represented at the launch by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of ICT/Modernisation, Oluyomi Adebakin, described the deployment of the MIS File Tracker as another major milestone in the NCS’s drive to adopt innovative digital solutions that will strengthen operational efficiency, promote transparency, and facilitate seamless trade.
Adebakin reaffirmed the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to leveraging technology to transform its operations and improve service delivery.
“The deployment of the MIS File Tracker demonstrated the Service’s resolve to embrace innovation in line with global best practices as the architect of several landmark digital initiatives, including the Nigeria Trade Portal and the Customs Verification Management System.
The introduction of the MIS File Tracker will further strengthen the command’s reputation as a centre for innovation within the Nigeria Customs Service with key features that promote ease of administration”
She continues “MIS is an Enterprise Platform for all Customs administrative processes that would serve as a Single Sign-On application which enables one unified data set to be used across all departments administratively. I urge Officers to utilise the application for key administrative functions, including Leave and Pass Applications; File Tracking; Duty Roster; Internal Staff Orders; Nominal Roll and other administrative processes. The platform also provides avenues for feedback on areas requiring modifications, additions, and improvements” she concluded.
“The PTML Area Command, widely regarded as one of the most technologically advanced commands in the Service, has continued to serve as the preferred pilot location for cutting-edge Customs modernisation projects including the Unified Customs Management System also known as B'Odogwu,” she said
Acting Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko expressed optimism in the command’s ability to successfully implement the rollout and serve as a model for customs innovation.
According to Miko, the command is maximising all technology-backed trade facilitation initiatives made possible by the Nigeria Customs Service Management.
Miko lauded the innovation as a bold step towards sustaining the feats of the Nigeria Customs Service, being a leading customs administration in Africa.
