The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has approved a monthly allowance of ₦30,000 for corps members serving in the state.
The governor announced the gesture on Friday at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Chidiebere Onyia, the governor welcomed the corps members to Ebonyi, describing the state as peaceful, secure and accommodating, with ample opportunities.
Onyia urged the corps members to embrace Nigeria’s diversity, respect their host communities and contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.
“I want to encourage the corps members to see their service year as an opportunity for personal growth, skills development and nation building.
“I assure you of the full support of the Government of Ebonyi State throughout your service year, and I wish you a safe, productive and rewarding experience,” he said.
Also speaking, Onyia, who is Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board in the state, emphasised the importance of hard work, discipline, integrity and respect for constituted authorities.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Hilary Ogbonna, he reiterated the state government’s commitment to youth development, as well as the welfare and security of corps members.
Ogbonna encouraged the corps members to participate actively in camp activities and contribute positively to their host communities, assuring them of a peaceful and conducive environment.
Meanwhile, the NYSC Coordinator in Ebonyi State, Mrs Pat Maidariya, called for increased government support to improve facilities at the orientation camp.
She requested the construction of a standard kitchen and dining hall, establishment of a Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Centre, renovation of the perimeter fence and additional facilities for the multipurpose hall.
Maidariya appreciated the state government for its continued support and urged corps members to remain disciplined and uphold the values of patriotism, unity, integrity and selfless service.
The event featured the oath-taking ceremony, a parade by the Man O’ War and inspection of projects at the camp.
