Senator Goje Debunks Defection Rumour to PDP

Senator Muhammadu Danjuma Goje, representing Gombe Central Senatorial District, has reaffirmed his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing speculation that he is planning to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Senator Goje, who is serving his fourth term as Senator for Gombe Central under the APC, addressed the issue during a political gathering at his residence in Pantami, Gombe, on Saturday, where he spoke to a large number of his supporters.

The Senator had previously been unable to secure the APC's return ticket during the party's last senatorial primary election in the state.

Following the development, some of his constituents and political associates reportedly advised him and members of his political camp to leave the APC and join the PDP.

However, while addressing his supporters, Senator Goje maintained that he remained a committed member of the ruling APC and urged his supporters, particularly those from Akko and Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Areas, to remain calm and focused as he considers his next political move ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Senator Goje said he had mentored many political actors across different political parties, either directly or indirectly, stressing that his more than four decades in politics had taught him to approach political developments with caution and dignity.

He also assured his supporters across the state of his continued support, whether or not he contests an election.

However, the supporters at the gathering insisted that Goje should remain active in politics and contest the 2027 senatorial election to represent the people of Gombe Central for a fifth term.

Since the return to democratic rule in 1999, Senator Goje has remained a prominent figure in Nigerian politics.

He served as Minister of State for Power under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and later served two terms as Governor of Gombe State.

Senator Goje is currently serving his fourth term as Senator representing Gombe Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

For now, Senator Goje's latest remarks put to rest speculation over an imminent defection to the PDP, although his political plans ahead of the 2027 elections remain a subject of keen interest among his supporters and political observers in Gombe State.
