Candidacy: APC Petitions Police Over Hunye’s Alleged Impersonation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, seeking the immediate investigation, arrest and prosecution of Abayomi Hunye over his alleged impersonation as the party’s governorship candidate for Ogun State in the 2027 election.

In the petition signed by the APC Director of Administration, Ayoola Olajolo, the party accused Hunye of parading himself in the media and on social platforms as its governorship candidate, describing the claim as false and fraudulent.

The APC alleged that Hunye’s actions could mislead the public, undermine electoral integrity and cause a breach of peace in Ogun State.

According to the party, Hunye was suspended from the APC on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his ward in Tube Ward, Ipokia Local Government Area, over alleged anti-party activities, dealings considered injurious to the party’s image and actions allegedly aimed at creating disaffection among members.

The party said the suspension was subsequently ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and communicated to the APC National Headquarters.

The APC further stated that it had conducted its governorship primary election and identified Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan as its governorship candidate, with Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as the deputy governorship candidate.

The party urged the police to invite Hunye for questioning and, following investigation, prosecute him for alleged impersonation, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and alleged violations of the Electoral Act, 2026.

It also asked the police to restrain Hunye from further parading himself as the party’s candidate, warning that his continued actions could threaten law and order in Ogun State.

The APC said its national headquarters and Ogun State chapter were ready to cooperate fully with the police and provide additional witnesses and documents required for the investigation.
