The President of the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC), Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Rifkatu Iortyer, has commended workers, media practitioners and supportive allies for their solidarity and support during critical negotiations and protests.

Speaking during a surprise gathering to mark her 58th birthday, Iortyer detailed the significant sacrifices made by union members and the broader workforce during high-stakes demonstrations aimed at pressing home staff demands.

Recounting the intense period leading up to the total shutdown of the FCTA Secretariat, she praised the extraordinary resilience and unity of the workforce, noting the personal costs endured by members.

" Workers personally funded hotel stays in the city centre to ensure early arrivals at protest sites.

"A key union member permanently lost a vehicle following late-night strategy sessions with management.

"Union leaders endured active communications monitoring and phone surveillance throughout the period of agitation," she recalled.

Addressing the FCT Minister's Press Corps, Iortyer acknowledged the delicate balance journalists navigate during labour disputes.

While recognising editorial constraints regarding publicising internal grievances, she commended the media for their persistent coverage, professional partnership, and presence during union milestones.

Regarding FCTA governance, the JUAC President acknowledged visible progress in physical infrastructure particularly road networks across the territory, while emphasising that a balanced approach must prioritise staff welfare.

According to her, moving forward, the union has adopted a strategic shift focused on long-term sustainability and peace, hoping that FCT leadership will fully recognise the civil servants driving daily operations.

She concluded by thanking her family for their moral support, as well as the Secretariats, SDS staff, Call Centre personnel, and organising committees who planned the surprise event in her honour.

Echoing the timeless principle that "he who waters will also be watered," the Director of the FCT Department of Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement, Dr Jumai Ahmadu, offered heartfelt prayers and warm wishes for the celebrant.

Dr Jumai Ahmadu lauded Iortyer's exceptional leadership, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication.

Beyond professional and administrative accomplishments, her tribute highlighted the JUAC President's deep personal warmth and commitment to uplifting others.

Leading the room in raising a glass, Ahmadu wished the celebrant a deeply fulfilling year ahead marked by expanding impact, good health, and many more years of glorious service to the FCT.
