NIGER 2027: Why The Incumbent Stands a Better Chance in a Two Horse Race

NIGER 2027: WHY THE INCUMBENT STANDS A BETTER CHANCE IN A TWO HORSE RACE

“When the storm comes calling, you don’t look for the man with an umbrella manual. You look for the man who already built the shelter.”

The drums are rolling. The 2027 general elections are here and Niger State is awake. At the center of it all stands one man the people already know by sight, not by billboards: *Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.*

Niger State Government Signs Off 556 km Road Construction Project.

Three years. That was all it took. While others made promises, he made projects.

While others held meetings, he held tractors.

From the highways of Suleja to the farms of Bida and Borgu. From revived hospitals in Kontagora, Minna, Bida and Suleja to smart schools in Minna. From irrigation in Bida to empowerment across all twenty five local government areas.

The Farmer Governor did not inherit a magic wand. He inherited uncompleted projects, misplaced priorities, insecurity, hunger, pension backlogs and decay.

He consequently answered them with the Green Economy, with roads, with jobs and with presence. He came prepared — having studied experts and leaders who delivered before him. Those results made Bago unstoppable. The people enjoy what he brought, and their faith in him has only grown.

Then the opposition played their “trump card”:

Governor Bago has become a nightmare to those who want power by all means  for he is valued and endearing to his people. Out of the blue came a defector, "Mamman Mohammed Nami."

Mamman Nami first contested for the Niger South Senatorial ticket under the All Progressives Congress, APC but could not cross the line. He then defected to the People's Democratic Party, PDP, a party that not only welcomed him, but replaced their governorship candidate with him.

Nami is a tax expert, a technocrat, former Chairman of Nigeria's Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, now known as the Nigeria Revenue Service, NRS. 2019–2023. The man is a master of figures and federal power. On paper, he looks like a giant.

But Niger is not asking for a man who can balance a budget.

Niger is asking for a man who can balance hope.

Let us be honest. While Nami was counting billions in Abuja,  Bago was relentlessly touring villages, counting borehole and attending the communities' needs across the state.

While Nami was signing tax policies, Bago was signing road contracts.

While Nami was in boardrooms, Bago was in the mud with farmers.

You cannot eat a résumé. You cannot plant a communiqué.

The market does not buy noise. The market buys yams.

This is the contest:

"Figures vs Farms."

"Theory vs Tractors."

"Abuja pedigree vs Niger presence." Period!

Nami comes with PDP structure and federal connections. Fair.

Bago comes with APC and three years of proof.

Nami comes to tell us what he will do.

Bago comes to show us what he has done. Case closed.

A leader is not measured by the size of his curriculum vitae, (CV), but by the size of his footprints.

And across Niger, Bago’s footprints are in cement, in classrooms, in silos, in smiles. They are simply Indelible.

The opposition wants you to forget the roads, the scholarships, the capital for youth and women, the unprecedented employment of young men and women into the workforce.

However, “_the tree that bears fruit is the one that gets stoned_.” The stones thrown at this governor have only made him plant more.

2027 will be a referendum.

Vote with your eyes — you will see Bago’s projects.

Vote with your stomach — you will see Bago’s farms and food security.

Vote with your children’s future — you will see Bago’s smart schools, futuristic universities and revamped health institutions.

Power does not go to the loudest voice. It goes to the steadiest hands. The challenger has figures.

Niger has a Farmer.

And the Farmer has tilled the ground, planted the seed, and is guarding the harvest.

In Niger 2027, suspense is high. Intrigues and machinations are ripe but the ending is already written on the ground. That interesting ending is Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago. God willing.
