A CALL FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF DR. JIBRIN BALA JIBRIN YIKANGI

Dodo Mustapha Alhaji Bida

While welcoming the decision of His Excellency, the Governor of Niger State, to establish the Niger State Entertainment Council, I believe it would be appropriate to consider Dr. Jibrin Bala Jibrin Yikangi for appointment as the pioneer Executive Secretary of the Council, subject, of course, to the provisions and structure of the establishing instrument.

Yikang is a household name in the entertainment industry, particularly within the Nupe creative space, where he has made significant contributions to the growth and promotion of the industry over the years. Indeed, the story of the Nupe entertainment industry would be incomplete without acknowledging his contributions.

Beyond entertainment, he has demonstrated considerable commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its administration through his participation in party activities, committees and initiatives aimed at promoting the party and its programmes since inception.

He is also a mentee and close associate of the current Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, whose experience, networks and institutional reach could be valuable in supporting the growth and visibility of the Council.

With his combination of academic qualifications, professional experience, entertainment expertise, political exposure and organisational capacity, Yikangi possesses the attributes required to help lay a solid foundation for the new Council.

His appointment could also reinforce the spirit of unity, inclusiveness and collaboration within the APC family in Niger State, particularly coming on the heels of the renewed commitment by Minister Malagi and his team, only yesterday, to support the continuity of the Farmer Governor’s administration.

Yikangi holds a B.A. in English, an M.Sc. and a Doctorate in English. He is an educator, entertainer and politician, and has participated in various committees and initiatives relating to the promotion of the APC and its programmes.

For me, his consideration would represent recognition of hard work, experience, education, exposure, loyalty and service, while also giving the emerging entertainment sector an experienced hand at its formative stage.

This is, however, my personal opinion and humble suggestion, offered in good faith and in the interest of the development of Niger State’s creative industry. The ultimate decision rests with His Excellency and the appropriate authorities.
