PDP sets for March 29 Convention, declares ‘No Victor, No Vanquished’ as Party Rebuilds

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set for the March 29 and 30 crucial national convention, declaring that there is “no victor and no vanquished” as it intensifies efforts to rebuild and reposition ahead of future elections.

Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee, Abdulrahman Mohammed, made the declaration on Monday at the party’s 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, describing the convention as a defining moment for the party’s future.

“This convention is not merely a routine exercise; it is a critical milestone that will shape the future direction of our party,” he said.

Mohammed noted that the PDP had made “significant progress in stabilising its structures and restoring confidence” following recent legal and political challenges, attributing the gains to collective resolve and adherence to due process.

“The recent judicial pronouncements, approached with a spirit of reconciliation and inclusiveness, have further reinforced our commitment to unity. There is no victor and no vanquished only a shared commitment to rebuild, reposition, and strengthen our party,” he stated.

The caretaker chairman also announced the successful conduct of ward, local government, state and zonal congresses nationwide, describing them as largely peaceful and reflective of the party’s democratic ideals.

He urged members to remain united and disciplined as the party approaches the convention, stressing that the PDP remains “one indivisible family.”

“The eyes of the nation are upon us, and we must rise to the occasion with transparency, discipline and respect for our internal democratic processes,” Mohammed added.

He paid tribute to the party’s national leader, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as “doggedness, sacrifices and courage” in stabilising the party.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mao Ohuabunwa, described the NEC meeting as holding at a critical juncture requiring “wisdom, restraint and a deep sense of responsibility.”

He commended the leadership for successful congresses and highlighted the ongoing electronic membership registration as a major reform aimed at strengthening internal democracy.

“A credible membership register is the foundation of any serious political organisation. It enhances planning, transparency and builds confidence among members,” Ohuabunwa said.

On zoning, he urged party leaders to approach the recommendations of the zoning committee with openness and a commitment to equity and justice.

“No arrangement is perfect, but what is most important is our collective willingness to accommodate one another for the greater good of the party,” he stated.

The NEC meeting comes amid renewed optimism within the party, with National Assembly caucus leaders including Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, insisting that the PDP remains strong despite recent turbulence.

Moro had earlier declared that the party was “not dead,” urging members to rally behind its leadership to ensure a solid foundation for electoral competitiveness.

Similarly, House of Representatives Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, called for selflessness and unity among members, describing the pre-convention period as critical for consolidation.

Also, Chairman of the PDP State Chairmen Forum, Austine Nwachukwu, said the party was witnessing renewed grassroots mobilisation, with increasing membership driven by ongoing e-registration.

The PDP leadership, however, maintained that unity, reconciliation and discipline remain central to its strategy as it prepares for the national convention expected to redefine its leadership structure and political direction.
