Tinubu Will Win FCT on Achievements- Wike
By Abdullahi Muhammad
Abuja
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other candidates of the ruling party will win the FCT in the 2027 general elections, citing the administration’s infrastructure achievements in the territory.
Wike said the Tinubu administration had redefined infrastructure delivery in the FCT by expanding development beyond the city centre to satellite towns, urging residents to vote for candidates who had demonstrated commitment to their welfare.
He made this known in Abuja on Thursday while addressing journalists following an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects across satellite towns in the FCT.
Responding to questions on the political outlook for the FCT ahead of the 2027 general elections, Wike said he had no fear whatsoever that Tinubu and other candidates, including Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, would win the FCT elections.
According to the Minister, “If really indeed that good governance is a barometer to measure whether a government has succeeded or not, then we have nothing to fear. If we are saying that we want to have a government that listens to us, we want to have a government that cares for us, we want to have a government that solves our problems…Now the Tinubu administration has come, it’s not only listening to you, but it’s also caring for you, and it’s also solving your problems.
“So why would the people again who have said this is what they want, now change their mind to say oh let’s go and try people that we do not know what will happen? Nobody does that.
“I can beat my chest; I can close my eyes and go home and sleep with my two eyes closed that Bola Ahmed Tinubu will emerge and other candidates such as Philip Aduda and John Gabaya will win this election. I have no fear at all”, Wike further stated.
The Minister said more than 10 projects would be commissioned in the FCT before the next elections, exceeding an earlier pledge of just ten projects.
“Just like I said yesterday, the Tinubu Administration has redefined infrastructure delivery as far as FCT is concerned, not just within the city but also within the Satellite Towns”, the Minister stressed.
Wike also assured residents that the long-awaited Apo-Karshi road and the Bwari-Kubwa road would be completed by December this year and opened to residents.
He recalled that the Apo-Karshi road contract was originally awarded in 2010 but stalled under the previous administration, prompting the current administration to revoke and re-award it.
He said the contractor had given assurances that the road would be handed over by November this year.
“I am so happy in the sense that we have been able to conquer the Apo Karshi road. You know the importance of that road. That road was awarded in 2010…. To the glory of God, today we were there, and we can see with our eyes that indeed by November they would have handed over that very important road”, Wike said.
The Minister, who was also in Bwari where excited residents turned out in large numbers during the inspection visit, said the contractor working on the Bwari-Kubwa road, SCC, had promised handover by the end of the year, despite delays caused by heavy rainfall.
Asked about criticism from the incumbent FCT senator, who had said she would not be intimidated and could not be forced out of the race, the Minister said his comments were not intended as intimidation but as a call for accountability.
He questioned how often she had engaged satellite town communities and traditional rulers, and what legislative action she had taken on behalf of the territory.
“How many times has she gone to satellite towns to discuss with them to consult with them, even traditional rulers? How many times has she spoken on the floor of the Senate to say these are the problems the FCT is facing? How many times has she come up with bills to tell her colleagues to support her to pass this bill so that certain problems facing Abuja will be taken care of? So, it’s not about intimidation, nobody’s intimidating her. Rather, she has intimidated herself by not performing. It’s the non-performance that’s causing her intimidation”, the Minister explained.
On the recent demolition exercise in parts of Abuja, the FCT Minister said affected occupants had been given more than six months’ notice and described them as illegal occupants rather than property owners.
He said the government could not continue to delay enforcement after repeated notice periods.
