Abuja
The FCT Administration has said that it commission isset to conduct the 2026 promotion examinations for over 10,700 staff of the FCT Administration.
Disclosing this on Wednesday, Chairman, FCT Civil Service Commission, Engr. Emeka Eze said the minister of the FCT has approved the exams.
He revealed that the examinations would be computer based and that staff had a responsibility to develop themselves in computer literacy.
“Following the Honorable Minister's approval and reconsideration, the 2026 promotion exercise for all FCT workers totaling over 10,700 people across 145 cadres will commence on October 5th, Monday, at National Open University.’’
“It will also be done by CBT, and it is expected that people who are due will sit for the competitive exam. And in line with the public service rule, promotion will be based purely on merit to the vacancies declared in line with the organogram and structure of these agencies.” He said:
Engr. Eze also said the Commission has concluded plans and are ready for the promotion exams.
“ We also have made necessary arrangements to ensure that it is smooth, I mean, hitch-free, runs out very smoothly. And like last year, it's going to be smooth.”
Against the previous challenges associated with promotion exams, the Civil Service Commission said the workers have come to terms with the system and already know that it will be competitive.
“I'm happy to learn that most of our FCT workers have come to terms with the fact that all exams must be on a competitive basis. And those who were successful in July exercise for 2025 have all collected their promotion letters. And so that's why we're here, to discharge the principal function of the Commission, to promote people.”
He said after the exams, all the backlogs that accumulated over the years would have been cleared and subsequently, there will be stability.
“Basically with this, we would have cleared all the backlog of promotions we inherited, making it so that by 2027, we'll only be conducting 2027 as at when due. That is the directive of the Minister that we must clear all the backlogs so that the Commission, the civil servants will get their promotion as at when due. And that's what we are doing.
He advised the workers to read, prepare and stay calm through the exams. He, however, warned: “Obey all instructions, do not come to the hall with phones. You must come with your regulation letter and letter of confirmation to show your staff, and all that.
“Other than that, it's a very simple exercise, 45 minutes for each person. Just click into the computer, put your number, which is on the website. Each person who is going to sit for the exam has his name uploaded in the website, where they are supposed to pick their login details, which will also serve as their password.
“Once you click in, your name will appear automatically. You tell your name, your cadre, your level, and then it will ask you to click. You start, your time starts counting. At the end of 45, it automatically shuts down, and your results, your performance comes on there. And you can screenshot it or copy it, and that's it. You know your result. It's as simple as that.
