The Sokoto State Police Command says it has foiled an attack by armed bandits on Tsabre Village in Isa Local Government Area of the state.

The operation, which took place in the early hours of Friday, October 2, 2026, resulted in the recovery of sophisticated weapons and other items, while the bandits reportedly fled into a nearby forest.

A statement signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufa’i, said the incident occurred at about 1:00 a.m. when a large number of armed bandits, wielding sophisticated weapons, attacked the village and fired sporadically to create panic among residents.

According to the statement, upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in Isa immediately mobilised tactical teams, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), to the scene.

The statement said the operatives engaged the bandits in a gun duel, forcing them to retreat into a nearby forest.

"It added that the police subsequently combed the surrounding bushes and recovered the following items: Two rocket launchers, two empty AK-47 magazines, one keypad Tecno handset without a battery, one torchlight, one army jungle hat, one sweater cap, five pairs of sandals, and one rain jacket.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, commended the officers for their swift response and bravery during the operation.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property in the state and urged residents to remain vigilant.

The Commissioner also appealed to members of the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals with gunshot wounds seeking medical attention to the nearest police station.
