Abducted Teachers, Pupils in Oyo Regain Freedom
By Mohammad Bala Imam
The teachers and school children kidnapped by suspected bandits in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been rescued.
A statement by the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, says the victims were freed through the efforts of security agencies.
Sharing a video and photographs of the principal alongside other rescued victims, Onanuga stated: “Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies.
“One of the rescued teachers in Oyo sends a thank-you message to President Tinubu and the security agencies.
“In the course of the rescue operation, eight of the kidnappers were arrested and are now in DSS custody, while some of them were neutralised.
“There was no quid pro quo in the rescue as one of the terrorists, a kingpin, whom the kidnappers demanded his release, is being prosecuted for his atrocities.
“The security agencies will give a full account soon.”
The students, teachers, and a toddler were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, when heavily armed men stormed Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, and nearby Baptist schools in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, abducting 46 individuals.
