City Boy Movement Begins Retreat, Unveils 10 Million Vote Drive

By Ahmad Sirajo Makama, Abuja

The City Boy Movement (CBM) has begun its maiden three-day National Retreat, unveiling an ambitious 10 million vote drive while calling for stronger grassroots engagement, increased youth participation and sustained public support for ongoing national reforms.

The discussions dominated the opening day of the retreat, held at the Conference Centre of the State House, Abuja, as the movement's National Working Committee (NWC) unveiled plans to mobilise 10 million votes for President Bola Tinubu.

Addressing participants at the opening dinner of the retreat the Patron of the City Boy Movement, Seyi Tinubu, said the movement had grown into "a strong family foundation" and "a national network of committed patrons," built on resilience, loyalty and purpose.

Tinubu said the organisation had built formidable grassroots structures, mobilised thousands of volunteers, inspired youth participation in governance and consistently promoted democratic ideals despite criticism and misinformation.

"Our greatest victory is still ahead of us. This retreat is therefore not a celebration of yesterday, but it is preparation for tomorrow," he said.

Tinubu charged members to return to their states as communicators, educators, mobilisers and ambassadors of hope, urging them to explain government policies with facts, listen to citizens' concerns and demonstrate leadership through service.

"As members of this movement, we carry a huge responsibility that extends further than politics itself. We are communicators. We are educators. We are mobilisers. We are ambassadors of hope," he stated.

On the administration's reform agenda, Seyi Tinubu said President Bola Tinubu assumed office amid major economic and security challenges and had since embarked on reforms to stabilise the economy, strengthen public finances, expand infrastructure, attract investment, support agriculture, improve education and enhance national security.

Acknowledging that the reforms had required difficult decisions, he said members should help Nigerians understand their objectives while engaging citizens with empathy.

"This is precisely why our engagement must be responsible, factual and compassionate. We must help people understand the goals of these reforms while also listening respectfully to the experiences and concerns of every Nigerian," he said.

He urged members to rise above personal interests and remain focused on the shared purpose of the movement.

"Let us remain united. Let us remain disciplined. Let us remain organised. Let us remain committed. There is absolutely no limit to what this movement can achieve," he declared.

Also speaking, Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Francis Shoga, called on members to strengthen the organisation's structures and remain focused on building a disciplined, united and purpose-driven movement.

Shoga urged members to deepen grassroots engagement by listening to young Nigerians, communicating government initiatives with clarity and conviction, and intensifying mobilisation ahead of future elections.

"10 million votes will come from real people, real members, real structures, real engagement and real work at the grassroots," he said, urging every member to become a mobiliser in their wards, local governments, campuses, markets and communities.

Also speaking at the event, Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, urged members of the Movement to intensify grassroots mobilisation in support of President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister tasked members to remain united and become ambassadors of the Renewed Hope Agenda, urging that mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections should begin immediately.

The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Mariya Mahmoud, described nation-building as a shared responsibility and commended the City Boy Movement for promoting patriotism, unity and responsible citizenship.

The retreat brought together City Boy Movement leaders, state coordinators and members from across the federation to review the organisation's activities and strengthen strategies for grassroots mobilisation and civic engagement.

In his vote of thanks, the Co-Patron of the City Boy Movement, Kashim Shettima Junior, commended the commitment to the ideals of the movement and described the City Boy Movement as "the biggest youth political movement in Africa."

He urged members to remain united, committed and focused on expanding the movement's grassroots reach in support of national development and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
