APC Chairman Urges Northerners To Back Tinubu’s Second Term

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, says the North has many reasons to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, citing infrastructure projects, inclusive leadership and key appointments.

Prof. Yilwatda stated this at the commissioning of the Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A) campaign secretariat in Abuja, where he urged Northerners to rally behind the Tinubu-Shettima ticket for a second term.

He described Vice President Kashim Shettima as one of the reasons the North should support the President, saying the administration had promoted unity among Nigerians of different religious and ethnic backgrounds.

“He has built an inclusive environment, bringing all of us together, ensuring that whether you are Christian, Muslim, whether you are of different faith, different religion, different tribe, he has brought us together under one shelter,” Prof. Yilwatda said.

The APC chairman also appealed to the North to support him in his capacity as the party’s national chairman, describing himself as a son of the region.

Yilwatda further highlighted road construction projects across the North, including the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway, the proposed extension towards Maiduguri and the Trans-Saharan Super Highway.

According to him, the road projects demonstrate the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development across the northern geopolitical zones.

He also cited the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline project, irrigation initiatives, railway development and healthcare programmes as reasons the region should support Tinubu’s second-term bid.

The APC chairman said the gas project would support electricity generation, compressed natural gas (CNG) supply, domestic gas distribution and fertiliser production.

He added that the Federal Government was building 300 dams for irrigation, describing the initiative as significant for agricultural development in the North.

Yilwatda also listed social investment programmes, health insurance and other federal initiatives among the benefits of the Tinubu administration.

He urged northern political leaders and party members to mobilise voters at the grassroots, expressing confidence that the region could deliver substantial support for the President in 2027.

He subsequently moved a motion calling for Tinubu’s re-election, urging attendees to affirm their support for the President’s second term.

The organisation’s Director-General, former Jigawa State Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, said A4A was established to mobilise support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket across the North.

He said the decision to support the President was based on the administration’s performance rather than political sentiment.

“We did not arrive at that conclusion because of sentiment. We arrived at it because of the evidence,” Badaru said.

According to him, the administration has made progress in infrastructure development, with road, bridge, railway and power projects expected to improve connectivity and create economic opportunities for communities across the country.

On security, the former governor said there had been improvements in parts of the North, allowing some residents to return to their farms and communities to rebuild.

“Much work remains, and we will not pretend otherwise, but the direction is clear, and the progress is real,” he said.

Badaru also highlighted the Federal Government’s social investment programmes and the student loan initiative, saying the latter had expanded access to university education for young Nigerians who might otherwise struggle to pay tuition fees.

He said the administration had taken difficult decisions that previous governments postponed, adding that leadership required making choices in the long-term interest of the country.

“Arewa is a partner in this journey and not a spectator,” Badaru said, pledging that the organisation would mobilise support for the President across states, local governments, wards and polling units.

The A4A director-general said the campaign headquarters would serve as a centre for coordinating activities and developing strategies ahead of the 2027 general election.

He described the facility as a demonstration of the organisation’s readiness to mobilise supporters through a disciplined, peaceful and issue-based campaign.

Badaru said the organisation would engage communities, including young people and women, to explain the administration’s achievements while listening to their concerns.

The event was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, northern political leaders and other stakeholders.
