Kaduna Pays ₦7bn Compensation to 4,865 Households
By Muhammad Bala Imam
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, says his administration has paid about seven billion naira in compensation to 4,865 households affected by road construction projects across the state's three senatorial zones since May 2023.
The governor disclosed this in Zaria during the flag-off of another round of compensation payments worth about two billion naira to 865 households affected by township road projects in Zaria, Giwa and Shika.
Sani said the payments were intended to ease the burden on property owners whose homes, businesses and other structures were affected by the projects.
He explained that the reconstruction of 11 township roads in Zaria and Sabon Gari Local Government Areas, alongside projects in Giwa and Shika, was aimed at improving connectivity, boosting commercial activities and facilitating access to essential services.
The governor said his administration recognised the impact of infrastructure development on affected communities and considered compensation a responsibility to citizens whose properties were required for public projects.
He commended the affected households for their cooperation and directed relevant utility agencies to expedite the relocation of water, electricity and telecommunications infrastructure to facilitate the projects.
