PDP Trains State Officials Ahead of 2027 General Elections
By Ahmad Sirajo Makama
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced a capacity-building programme for its state officials and technical personnel on the uploading and registration of party agents ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The National Chairman of the party, Abdulrahman Mohammed, who spoke at the training, said the exercise would be conducted in four phases, beginning with the national-level training, followed by sessions across the states, local government areas, wards and polling units.
He stressed that the effectiveness of election monitoring and the party's performance at the polls would largely depend on the preparedness of its agents and canvassers at the polling-unit level.
Mohammed urged participants to take the training seriously and ensure that the knowledge acquired was replicated across their respective states to strengthen the party's grassroots electoral operations.
He noted that the electoral process had continued to evolve from manual procedures to electronic systems, making it necessary for party members to update their knowledge and adapt to emerging developments in election administration.
According to him, the training would equip participants with the requisite skills to effectively manage the deployment of agents and ensure proper representation of the party at polling units nationwide.
Also speaking, the PDP National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, described the exercise as an important capacity-building initiative focused on the electronic uploading of party agents ahead of the elections.
Bature emphasised the importance of timely submission of agents' details, warning that the party must avoid complications that could arise from late registration or improper documentation.
He disclosed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed December 17 as the deadline for uploading agents' details on its portal.
However, after deliberations, participants agreed on December 10 as the party's internal deadline for the submission of names to allow sufficient time for processing and onward uploading to INEC.
The National Organising Secretary urged state officials to ensure that only committed and trustworthy party members were nominated as agents, warning against the practice of engaging individuals who might compromise the party's interests during elections.
He advised the officials to properly screen prospective agents, noting that cases of individuals serving the interests of opposing political parties had, in the past, created difficulties for the PDP and its candidates during elections.
Bature further explained that the nomination process would require the names of agents, their designated polling units and passport photographs, which would be used for the production of identification tags.
He encouraged participants to seek clarification whenever they encountered difficulties, adding that INEC offices across the states could also provide technical assistance where necessary.
The training was attended by eight State Secretaries, 21 Organising Secretaries and 25 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) officers.
The exercise is expected to strengthen the PDP's electoral preparedness, improve coordination among its state structures and ensure effective representation at polling units ahead of the 2027 general elections.
