The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate allegedly involved in ransom collection following the abduction of three persons in Obudu Village, Ilorin East Local Government Area.

The suspect, identified as Muhamodu Sanni, was reportedly intercepted at a Point-of-Sale (POS) outlet while attempting to withdraw ransom proceeds allegedly connected to the July 28, 2026 abduction.

According to the command, the arrest followed an intelligence-led investigation launched after armed men invaded Obudu Village and abducted three residents.

Rather than focus solely on the immediate aftermath of the attack, the police said investigators expanded their probe to the communication, logistics and financial channels allegedly supporting the kidnappers.

The approach reportedly paid off when operatives traced intelligence linked to the ransom transaction to Sanni, who was arrested while allegedly attempting to cash out the proceeds.

The police said the suspect cooperated with investigators during interrogation and provided information about his alleged role in the ransom collection process, as well as the identities of two other suspected members of the syndicate, Aminu and Umar.

The command said the information supplied by Sanni had strengthened its understanding of the kidnapping network, with further operational leads currently being pursued.

The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, said the command remained committed to dismantling criminal networks and preventing them from operating freely across the state.

The police also urged residents to support ongoing security efforts by providing timely and credible information that could assist in preventing crime and apprehending suspects.

The command said the operation was in line with the intelligence-led policing strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command.
